Opponents Vow to Fight On as Michigan Approves Tunnel for Line 5 Pipeline

Michigan acknowledged the project will have “significant impacts,” including harms to threatened or endangered species and destruction of the ancestral burial grounds of local Tribal Nations. “The magnitude of impacts to recognized historic and cultural values of this proposed project exceeds that of any other that EGLE (the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy) has reviewed,” officials wrote, while explaining their decision to approve the permit.
