Plus a quick rant about the dangers of declinism, framing, and why staying optimistic is vital: historical moments of ‘decline’ are also periods with the opportunity for fundamental change to happen in a positive way – if that opportunity is seized a ‘boomerang’ effect can occur.

Don’t allow the narrative to control you, shape the narrative yourself in every place and situation that you can. Political leaders are useful only as part of the equation: engage with them but never trust their framing of themselves as saviours. Democracy isn’t supposed to be about saviours – people are meant to have the power.
